Facts about London

The following facts is something that i noticed here in london. You may not necessarily find them on any websites. So iam not doing any ^c and ^v here. So let me take you on a virtual tour around london. Brace yourselves. But before that a small glossary for you. where ever i say London please pronounce as low-n-don, something as sow-m-thing, smaller as sow-mo-lerthats how the brits pronounce it. When i say tube its nothing but the london underground trains. Now lets start...

  • Every 8 people out of 10 inside a tube or for that matter in a bus or on the footpath will have an i pod hooked on to their ears. So you know the sales of I pod must be sky roketing here. Yes it is and its not just a simple shuffle. Thats considered negligible. Well i carry that i get that ah-shuffle look from those big Nano holders.

  • People inside the tube are either listening to musik on i-pod, reading a local newspaper or a book, gorging on sandwich, involved in a love act with their lovers (well lets not get into the details here). So you virtually dont see people really talking inside the tube unlike our mumbai or chennai metro.

  • If you are a teen in london you have to use all kinds of abusive languages inside the bus, pull an argument with the bus driver, talk loud on the phone (mind you these guys have their own mobile fones and i pod), play the musik real loud on their latest mp3 friendly mobile fone.

  • When you want to thank someone in london dont say just thanks say ' Thank you very much indeed'. Doesn matter if he has already said no problem and walked away but you have to complete the sentence.

  • Groceries stored by the people are either bought from somerfield, sainsbury, asda, M&S, tesco. If you have never done your grocery shopping from these superstores, then you are not fit to be in london.

  • Atleast 60 percent of the residents of london use the london transport. the rest use their own cars. But the congestion charges levied on these cars owners virtually make them to compulsarily travel by local transport.

  • The tube stations are located in the close proximity of each other. For example bond street and oxford street (famous shpping streets in london) are so close to each other still they have 2 different stations and if one person has to go to oxford st from bond street, he has to walk only for a minute still he will walk for 2 mins to go to the station, wait for the train and take it to get down at oxford street. Heights is'nt it.

  • Indians are known as asians in Uk unlike desi in USA. So when you say asian it can be Indian, bangladeshi, pakistani, chinese, japs. So if your an Indian you dont have a seperate identity. So what if we have ruled you for so long, so what if you contribute to the IT here you are an asian to us.

  • Jogging in london has no time factor you will see people jogging at any time of the day and night. At 9 in the nite or 2 in the noon, windy or rainy or sunny. Jog till you drop.

  • I dont know if the people here even cook. They get everything from all those superstores i mentioned above, so all they do is shop for a dozen of microwaveble meat and fish. store it in fridge and just heat it and eat, unlike us who make so much effort to cook so many dishes - roti, sabji, dhal. Cooking is indeed a big process in our country and for them its no big deal.

Let me just stop with this now. Iam going to be in london for another 3 months, iam sure i will come across more facts. I promise to keep you all posted with it. Until then cheers (that word is often used here)
