The accidental surprise

It had been a while since me and my husband saw an hindi movie. So we decided to catch a hindi flick today. I was very keen to watch Jodha Akbar while my husband was totally against watching a movie that was so long that you would feel you have been watching the movie forever. I told him hey come on after all that haha hehes aboout jodha akbar who would'nt want to see it and Hrithik looks truly like a greek god in that picture. I said no way we are watching it and the conversation ends there. My husband didnt have a choice he agreed to sit for 3.5 hours. So we left to a place called Ilford, thats the place where the cine halls shows hindi movies. After a long 1.5 hour bus ride we reached half an hour after the movie started. Now unlike India these guys dont allow you to watch the movie if you go this late. So we decided to watch whicever movie was showing at that time. We found a movie called 'The accidental husband' starring Uma Thurman,Colin Firth and one other new guy. Now come on we didnt want to waste our 1.5 hour bus journey so we decided to give this a try. When we sat to watch the flick, we realised it to be a total chik flick. Romance, emotions etc etc you know what i mean. My husband was like what the hell. We looked around and found no single man. The ladies were completely enjoying the movie with their loud giggles and sighs.Apparently my husband was the only one. but we decided to sit through the movie. Suddenly in the middle of the movie we hear the song 'Dumdumdumaka dam damdamaka..yaro yarodi' from Alaipayuthe. we were like WHAT!!! and this was not it at the end of the movie we hear the song 'Swasame' from the movie Thenali. We were thrilled. The people around us had no clue which language that is and why the hell it was played in an englich movie but we both were thrilled. so we stayed till the end of the movie to see if our maestro Rehman (apparently both the songs were by Rehman) has been given any credit. Everyone left the hall, the sweeper was waiting for us to leave but we didnt move till we saw Rehman's name bold and clear on the screen. Then we did our bit of analysis why this movie had a tamil song and concluded that Uma Karuna Thurman's (thats her full name, taken from here) parents were major Bhuddist follwers so maybe she had a bit of that influence and must have listened to rehman's numbers. Now come on who cannot possibly love Rehman. Well thats our conclusion incase you can think of anything please do let me know. But i would definitely recommed this picture for all those who liked movies like 'You've got mail' , "my best friends wedding'. Happy watching.

Taare Zameen Par - my review

A movie that would rip your heart and make your tear glands as active as ever is 'Taare Zameen par'. For me if i can recollect its been years since i have watched such a heartwrenching flick that made me cry with a reason to do so. A movie about a kid suffering from dyslexia being shunted to a boarding school by the iam-not-happy-with-your-performance-like-iam-with-your-elder-brother father. Impish Ishaan Awasti is a total day dreamer, who loves to explore spaces, do all things or atleast make an attempt to do things he is disapproved of. The scenes from the boarding school shows us glimpses of little naughty boys behaviour in school assemblies, class rooms, in hostels.

Aamir Khans entry in the later half of the movie as an art teacher shows how is he is not there to hog the lime light and gives all of the movie to the little darsheel. How aamir sets out to make ishaan's life better is what the movie is all about. Aamir has done a lot of research no doubt right from Albert Einstein to Abhishek bachan each of them suffering from dyslexia and how they have proved people wrong and made name in their own field of interest.

The scene where aamir sees the little boy in the chai shop working his ass off, calls him to sit beside him, gives him some chai and buiscuits and how the kid dunks the buiscuit in chai and eats would make you want to cry your heart out.

If you havent cried so far the last scene will definitely melt you down. The painting competition where ishaan beats his own teacher to take away the prize. For him that prize is nothing compared the prize his master has given him for life. And how he pays his gratitute by running into aamir's arms and cries his heart out is such a moving scene. The movie overall is very simple with no heroine or heroine's dad or his gundaas. No songs in pubs, no running around trees. The music of the movie is an absolute melody, with powerful lyrics by prasoon Joshi. Listen to the song 'Meri Ma' and you will feel the lyrics are a replica of your childhood days. A movie you will relate to your life, a movie which will teach todays parents a lesson, taare zameen par is a must watch. Be prepared to drench ur dry eyes this time. Dont forget your handky and above all do not hesitate to cry.

The Shawshank Redemption - The movie i completely loved watching

After a very long time if i have had the satisfaction of watching a movie it would be 'The Shawshank redemption', a beautiful movie that talks about the life of a rich banker in jail after he was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife and her secret lover a golf pro. The movie starts with the court scene where the prosecutor asks him questions regarding the murder he was convicted for. He tries to tell the judge and the jury that he wanted to kill her but he did not. But all the evidences supported the cause and hence he was sent to 'the shawshank' a prison in newengland run by a very strict warden. The prisoners in shawshank welcomes the new prisoners calling them new fish and they have the habit of betting on the new ones as to who will break down on the first day and Red (Morgan Freeman) bets on Andy (Tim Robbins) but was surprised to see that he is a very quiet and composed man who was in his own world and never spoke to the people there. The first person he speaks to is Red (red is a very popular guy in the prison who gets things done for the other prisoners. he has a good influence with the outside world and hence gets cigarets, beer, biscuits etc for the prisoners form time to time), now andy asks for a hammer which he says he wants to use for carving stones which he follows as a hobby. The story goes on with how his life takes a turn inside the prison when he starts doing the tax palnning for the jailors and the warden. Warden then transfers him to the prison library where he works with Brooks, an old man who has served 50 years inside the jail. Andy writes to the state asking for funds to expand the library and one fine day the state agrees and sends funds with which andy modernises the library adding more books. Once in a while Andy would try stunts for which he would be sent to the hole (something like a dungon, which is dark and desolated).

The movie takes a turn after the entry of a young guy named Tommy into the prison. He very enthusiastic guy who is immedisatly like by red, andy and their group. Through this guy Andy learns the valuable truth about the real killer of his wife and her golf pro lover. When Andy tries to tell this to Warden he doesn believe it and Andy threatens to tell the government about the tax scams that the warden had been into (with andy's help ofcourse). Shaken by this the warden murders Tommy. Finally andy decides to flee from the prison. How he escapes and how he gets the money to settle in the pacific region of mexico is the climax of the movie.

What i loved about the movie is the narration that Red gives about Andy during the course of the movie. The friendship that develops between Red and Andy is potrayed beautifully. The scene where Red tells to his fellow prisoners 'these walls are funny, when you come here for the first time you hate them and then you get used to them' is very beautifully said when he learns that Brooks, the old librarian leaves the prison to live a life outside and later on commits suicide. There is'nt much humor in the movie except where red tells Andy 'When you go outside Andy you dont need a powerful person like me,all you need is yellow pages'.

The movie ends with red coming to the pacific side of mexico to join andy to start a new life, with Hope something andy always strongly beleived in and Red never did and finally convinced by andy that there is something called hope that keeps the life going.
