An evening with Swami Dayananda Saraswathi

Swami Dayananda Saraswathi is here in London and we just got back after attending the day one whre we were lucky to witness the wonderful words of wisdom given by him at Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan in West Kensington, London. He started talking about Artha which means Security as in how human beings seek security such as bank accounts, retirement plans and also quoted an example of the number of credit cards a person carries, mentioning it to be a security as well. Then he moved on talking about Kama which means desires or pleasures. He says that we all have desires, as long as we dont have control over them we will continue to have dissappointments. He goes on quoting a very funny example about how he had been to chennai consulate for his UK visa this time and found only human beings and goes on saying that there was no Indian Monkeys, he says 'Why i did not find indian Monkeys? because the monkeys are very happy to be in India', making the audiences roar with laughter. he went on saying how we humans create things like visa while birds need no visa to migrate and they have no borders so they just fly freely where ever they want. He completed the day 1 speech by saying that desires can be there but never let desires rule you, have a control over your desires, that way you have full control over your life. Through out the speech he quotes Bhagavath Gita saying that Lord Krishna says that 'i manifest as desire in the human mind'
We are looking forward to the day 2 of his speech where he is going to talk about the connection of desires to dharma. More about that on my next post.
